Money Management Institute Kicks Off Yearlong Celebration of 25th Anniversary at Annual Conference

Wednesday, October 20, 2021

NEW YORK, NY, October 20, 2021 – The Money Management Institute (MMI) was established in 1997 to work on behalf of financial services firms providing financial advice and investment advisory solutions to investors. To mark its 25th anniversary, the industry association has organized special events and activities over the coming year to recognize this milestone and the impressive progress the investment advisory sector has achieved over the past quarter-century. MMI will also continue to engage member firms and help them take full advantage of the opportunities afforded by MMI, as part of its anniversary festivities.

“We are proud to celebrate 25 years of empowering our members with the educational resources, engagement opportunities, and actionable insights they need to shape the future of investment advice,” said Craig Pfeiffer, President and CEO of the MMI. “This is a period of accelerating and significant transformation for the investment advisory industry, and the long-entrenched regulatory and technology challenges our members face will continue to change their business in dynamic ways over the next 25 years. As we look toward the future, we are in a strong position to help wealth and asset managers adapt to the evolving needs of investors, and the financial advisors who serve them.”

MMI kicked off the yearlong celebration of its quarter-century milestone during its annual conference, currently underway in a virtual format. MMI is the only industry association uniquely dedicated to advancing the future of investment advice and solutions. The organization has grown from 18 member firms in 1997 to over 180 member firms today, including wealth managers, asset managers, and solutions providers ranging from some of the largest global financial institutions to emerging innovators and new entrants. MMI member firms collectively represent 95% of all assets in the advisory solutions sector.

More than 8,100 professionals currently harness MMI benefits and services to foster peer-to-peer connections, keep up to date on trends, access comprehensive research and analysis from industry experts, take advantage of specialized courses via MMI’s Continuous Learning Center, and create aligned communities where they can discuss common challenges and share best practices. In addition, MMI’s suite of Executive IQ™, Leadership Pathway, and Passport professional development programs help executive-level professionals, and rising leaders with 5 to 10 years of experience, advance their careers—and introduce emerging talent to the industry.

“Members of the investment advisory industry need a supportive community where they can bounce ideas off of each other and work together to overcome challenges and serve investors better,” said Troy Thornton, Managing Director and Head of the Americas Retail Client Business for Goldman Sachs Asset Management, and Chair of MMI’s Board of Governors. “MMI is the resource center where professionals in our industry can foster the connections, knowledge, and growth that are essential to enhancing their value proposition—the delivery of investment advice—and shepherding constructive social change.”

MMI has a longstanding commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the financial services industry. In 2008, MMI established the Gateway Foundation to foster connections that introduce university students of color to internships and full-time jobs in the financial services industry. The program continues to grow, offering more opportunities for MMI member firms to recruit entry-level and mid-career professionals of color, and support their ongoing development. MMI’s Gateway Foundation was named Diversity Champion at the InvestmentNews Diversity & Inclusion Awards in 2019.
