New MMI-FUSE Report: Direct Indexing: The Democratization of Customized Portfolio Management

MMI is pleased to present a new report produced in conjunction with FUSE Research Network, Direct Indexing: The Democratization of Customized Portfolio Management.

The first paper in a two-part series, the report examines the factors driving the surge of industry interest in – and activity centered around – direct indexing. While direct indexing has been available to HNW clients and institutional investors for decades, the advent of commission-free trading and fractional shares, coupled with advances in technology, has helped to bring the strategy down market to retail investors.

The report looks at this confluence of trends, why direct indexing may be appealing to advisors and investors, the different types of providers entering the space and how they are positioning their offerings, and the outlook for direct indexing to bring customized portfolio management to the masses.

Part II – available shortly – will explore where direct indexing is headed, how it will evolve, and the implications for firms in various parts of the customized portfolio ecosystem.
