Investment managers are already exploring, and in some cases holding, digital assets and cryptocurrencies. There is an expectation that asset managers will eventually be the largest holders of cryptocurrency (today they hold just 1%). Separately, there is a movement to digitize other – and perhaps all – financial instruments.
The bottom line is that investment managers may not have a choice as to whether they participate, and they need to understand digital assets and have a point of view on how and when they begin to engage.
